A Background to 2nds Boksburg and Scouting

The idea of Scouting was born here in South Africa - from the example of boys like you (or your son) who wanted to show that they could be trusted, and who were not afraid of a bit of danger. But, of course ther e have alw ays been boys like that. It needed a man with the skill to recognise it and the drive to turn them into youth movement, which spread around the world.

2nd Boksburg (St Michael's) Scout Troop has been going since 1916 and the Cub Pack since 1925, and we have the equipment to prove it. We run a very busy calender, with both work and fun, to produce well rounded fun-filled leaders. Scouting in 2nd Boksburg is about giving you (or your boys and girls), unforgettable experinces to help them prepare themselves for the topsy-turvy roller coaster of life.

Anglican Church of Boksburg

2nd Boksburg, has been affiliated with the Anglican Church of Boksburg since it started in 1916, Although some of the Cubs and Scouts do belong to both organisations, it is obviously not a prerequisite to join the group. This does not however preclude that 2nd Boksburg isn't dedicated to highr being. 2nd boksburg is fundamentally a Christian group, however we do not dissuade anybody from any other religions. We have never had any conflict in this matter.

2nd Boksburg opens their meetings and any other event with a prayer just like all other groups, and when camps go over a weekend , a Scouts Own is performed just like all other group. A small servive, where there are prayers, bible readings, a short talk, and hymns. The Scouters believe that this opens the scouts to a more balanced way of life, where you not only experience but also reflect upon ones experiences. 2nd Boksburg may in, the hopefully build a new den at Crows Nest, however at our opening we have named the chapel on the premise St Michael's Chapel and it was blessed by the Parish priest.
